1. Who we are

FCXI is a social network for football that connects players, clubs, scouts, coaches and other football professionals. This privacy policy explains what personal data we collect through the FCXI app and the website www.fcxi.net, why we do so, and what rights you have.

FCXI is the data controller for your personal data:

We process your data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Belgian privacy law.

2. Who is FCXI for?

You must be at least 13 years old to create an FCXI account. If you are under 13, you may not use FCXI. If we find out that an account belongs to someone under 13, we will delete the account and its data.

FCXI is intended for players, clubs, scouts, coaches and others active in the football world.

3. What data do we collect?

We only collect the data we need to make FCXI work. This includes:

Account data: your email address (used to log in with a one-time code, without a password) and a unique user ID.
Football profile (players): name, date of birth, playing positions, category, height, preferred foot, availability, region, biography and an optional profile link.
Club profile (clubs and scouts): club name, location, contact person, website and social media channels.
Content you share: profile photos, gallery photos, highlight videos, captions and posts on the feed.
Messages: the messages you exchange with other users via chat.
Usage data: how you use the app, for example which profiles you view or follow and how often your posts are viewed.
Technical data: a push notification token and the language you use in the app.
Contact with us: the data you share when you email us.

We do not ask for your exact GPS location. You enter your region yourself in your profile.

We do not collect personal data through the website www.fcxi.net, except when you email us.

4. What do we use your data for?

We only use your data for the purposes below. For each purpose, we have a legal basis under the GDPR.

We never sell your data and do not use it for personalised advertising.

5. Who can see your data and who do we share it with?

FCXI is a social network. Your profile, photos, videos and posts on the feed are visible to other users of the app, such as clubs, scouts and players. So only share what you want to make public. Your email address is not visible to other users.

Chat messages are only visible to you and the person you are chatting with. We only look at messages if they are reported to us for abuse, or if the law requires us to.

Apart from that, we only share data with:

Service providers that help us run the app, such as hosting, storage, push notifications and email. They may only use your data on our instructions and under a data processing agreement.
Authorities or the police, if the law requires us to or to protect the safety of users.
A potential buyer of FCXI, if all or part of the company is acquired. This privacy policy will continue to apply.

Our service providers are Supabase (database, storage and login) and Google Firebase (push notification delivery).

6. Data outside Europe

We try to keep your data within the European Economic Area (EEA) as much as possible. Some service providers may also process data outside the EEA, for example in the United States.

In that case, we ensure appropriate safeguards, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. You can always ask us for more information.

7. Artificial intelligence (AI)

In the future, FCXI may use AI tools to better match players and clubs, for example by suggesting relevant profiles.

AI only provides suggestions. We do not make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you, such as refusing an account, based solely on automated processing. If we introduce new AI features that process your data in a different way, we will update this policy and let you know.

8. How long do we keep your data?

We keep your data for as long as you have an account. If you delete your account, we erase your profile, photos, videos and messages within 30 days.

We keep some data longer when necessary:

Abuse reports and data needed to investigate fraud: for as long as the investigation lasts, and up to 1 year afterwards.
Data we are legally required to keep, such as invoices for paid services: 7 years.
Backups: automatically overwritten within 90 days.

If your account has not been used for 2 years, we may delete it after sending you a warning by email.

Deleting your account: you can do this in the app via Settings, or by sending an email to info@fcxi.net from the email address linked to your account.

9. Young users under 18

Many players on FCXI are under 18. That is why we take extra measures to protect them:

We only show the data needed to be found as a player. An email address, phone number or exact address is never visible in a profile.
Clubs and scouts can be verified, so you know who you are talking to.
You can report any profile, post or conversation and block other users.
Reports about the safety of minors are handled with priority.

Players under 16 should preferably use the app together with a parent or guardian. We encourage all young people to involve their parents or guardians when in contact with clubs and scouts. Parents with questions or concerns can always email us at info@fcxi.net.

10. Cookies and similar technologies

Website: www.fcxi.net does not use tracking, analytics or advertising cookies. We only use technically necessary cookies that keep the website working properly. No consent is required for these.

App: the app stores small amounts of data on your device to keep you logged in and remember your settings. This is technically necessary. The app does not use advertising or tracking technologies and does not track you across other apps or websites.

If we start using analytics or other non-essential technologies in the future, we will ask for your consent first.

11. Security

We protect your data with appropriate technical and organisational measures. For example, data is sent encrypted (HTTPS), you log in with one-time codes instead of a password, and only authorised people have access to our systems.

No system is 100% secure. If we discover a data breach that poses a risk to you, we will report it to the Belgian Data Protection Authority and, where necessary, to you.

12. Your rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Access: you can ask which data we hold about you.
Rectification: you can have incorrect data corrected. You can also change much of your data yourself in your profile.
Erasure: you can have your account and data deleted.
Restriction: you can ask us to temporarily limit the use of your data.
Portability: you can request your data in a commonly used format.
Objection: you can object to processing based on legitimate interest.
Withdrawing consent: if we process data based on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

Send your request to info@fcxi.net. We will respond within one month. To protect your data, we may ask you to confirm your identity.

Do you disagree with how we handle your data? Please contact us first. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority, Rue de la Presse 35, 1000 Brussels.

13. Changes and contact

We may update this privacy policy, for example when we add new features or introduce paid services. The date at the top shows when the policy was last changed. We will inform you of important changes via the app or by email.
